45th MMBC Penang Pesta International Bowling Championships

Good progress for Indonesian bowlers

14th December, Seberang Prai: Indonesian bowlers continued to make good progress at the 45th MMBC Penang Pesta International Bowling Championships with Alisha Nabila making the top bracket in second position in the overseas pool of the Mixed Open division.


Alisha improved her lower 3-game series with a stunning 759 to her other higher 3-game series of 621 for a total of 1428. Her fine effort hauled her up into the top bracket in second position behind leader and team-mate, Billy Muhammad Islam in pole position with 1436.

2017 Asian School Doubles gold medallist, Callum Borck of Australia took third spot with 1409. The top 3 qualifiers in the overseas pool will skip Round 1 and automatically advance to Round 2 finals.

Yeri Ramadona qualified in fifth position with 1391 and could well finish in the top bracket expecially needing only to improve his lower 3-game series of 615. Hardy Rachmadian, Ryan Lalisang and Oscar all qualified from tenth to 12th positions with 1346, 1330 and 1319 respectively.

Hengki Susanto headed the mixed pool with 1315 followed by Fachi Ibnu Askar in second with 1307. Nadia Pramanik, Diwan Rezaldy, Novie Phang, 2017 World Bowling Championships Masters bronze medallist, Sharon Limansantoso and Putty Armein occupied third to seventh positions all having secured their place in Round 1 finals.

Putty Armein and Aldila Indryati was the last two Indonesians to make the cut in 11th position with 1265. There were no changes in the top 2 spots on the local pool with 2015 Asian Youth Singles gold medallist, Chong Jun Foo of Sarawak, Malaysia in pole position with 1438.


Johnathan Chan of Sunway Megalanes remained in second with 1424 while national bowler, Syafiq Ridhwan finished third with 1409. The current cut in 25th position of the mixed pool went to Melyssa Chua of Singapore with 1230 (averaging 205.00).

Qualifiers positioned 4 to 13 in the local and overseas pools together with qualifiers positioned 1 to 25 in the mixed pool will contest the 8-game Round 1 finals on December 15. The top 18 finishers in Round 1 will be joined by the top 3 local and top 3 overseas seeded qualifiers for another 8 games in Round 2 finals on December 16. The top 3 finishers at the end of Round 2 finals will proceed to the Stepladder shootout finals.

The 45th MMBC Penang Pesta Bowling Championships, with title sponsor, Megamall Bowling Center, is sanctioned by World Bowling and Asian Bowling Federation. It is one of the most popular tournament in the month of December which attracts some 700 to 800 participants from East and West Asia.

There are a total of seven divisions, namely Youth Under-12, Youth Under-16, Youth Open, Women's Grade, Men's Grade A and B and Open (mixed gender). Paricipants bowl for two best 3-games unlimited qualifying series to make their respectively grades Masters finals.
